We will have our pack meeting this Thursday, November 11, at 7:00 pm.

LOCATION CHANGE: Timber Creek Elementary GYM (not the cafeteria).

We will have a special guest, Hank Hough, giving a presentation on obedience through the unique use of Labrador Retrievers. He will have two Labrador Retriever dogs giving visual illustrations at the presentation. This is sure to be a fun event for our scouts, and one that you DO NOT want to miss!

Pack Event Cancellations given COVID-19

Posted on Mar 17 2020 - 5:52pm

Pack 403 Families,

Given the guidance from the US Government with regards to COVID-19, the Pack Committee and I have decided to cancel our Pack Events through April 13th. These include:

* Fri Mar-20 Pack meeting (previously communicated by Committee Chair Trey Tyler)
* Fri Mar-28 Pack Hike
* Fri Apr-03 Pack Meeting
* Scout Fair (already cancelled by the Houston Area Scouting Council)
* All in-person coupon sales (already also cancelled by the Houston Area Scouting Council)

We have our USS Lexington trip on April 18th. We would hate to have the Scouts (and adults) miss out on this - so we are going to keep it scheduled for now, but continue to monitor events. As a matter of policy we will err on the side of being good citizens and minimizing risk to our parents and youth - but there is some chance things will be returning to normal then.

We were going to have our special Crossover Ceremony for our Webelos who are advancing to Scouts BSA on Apr-03. We very much want to see our Webelos appropriately lauded for their accomplishments, and will hold that ceremony at our next Pack meeting. We may also schedule some Pack meetings over the summer to help ensure everyone can get all their requirements in.

Den Meetings are NOT cancelled, but we completely understand if any individual decides not to participate. The Committee's logic was that Den Meetings are all under-10-person events, and the benefits of getting our children some social time / time to work on their requirements outweigh the risks of some exposure. Den Meetings will follow social distancing protocols (hand sanitizer present, maintaining appropriate distances).

In the meantime - if you're like my family, you're working from home and doing your best to do some home schooling and prevent stir-craziness. A great thing to do is to work on some of the optional Scout Adventures with your child. These adventures have been honed by the last 50 years of Cub Scouting to be fun, simple, and age appropriate. In addition, your child can look forward to being recognized in front of the Pack with another adventure pin or belt-loop when things return to normal. For all Scouts a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult's signature in the "approved by" column of their Scout manual counts as full approval (just photograph the page and send it to me our their Den Leader so we can update their records in ScoutBook).

In closing - these are certainly scary and stressful times. The Scout Law and Oath tell us (adults and children alike) to "Do Our Best" to be Cheerful and Brave. Children pick up easily on how each of us feel - even if they sometimes lack the language to discuss those feelings. Make sure to hug your kids and tell them it will be alright. This too will pass.

Yours in Scouting,
Nate Clark
